For Immediate Release Contact: Kent Briggs February 10, 2003 PUFFER 4.0 Houston, TX -- Briggs Softworks announces the release of Puffer 4.0, the latest version of our general purpose Windows encryption utility. Use Puffer to securely exchange email with other Puffer users and to encrypt your most sensitive data files into Puf archives, protecting them from unauthorized viewing. A new user interface has been deployed for version 4.0 that combines state-of-the-art encryption technology with a robust file archiving system. You can compress files and directories into Puf archives in a manner similar to the way zipping programs create Zip archives, including the ability to freshen, delete, and extract individuals files after the archive has been created. The difference, however, is that Puffer protects the confidentiality of your data with strong 256-bit AES encryption. In addition to conventional password protection, Puffer employees 2048-bit Diffie-Hellman public key cryptography that allows you to securely share your files and messages with other people without the need to share secret passwords. ASCII-armored encoding makes it possible to send encrypted data in the body of email messages and the included digital signature functions provide proof-of-ownership authentication. Also included are extensive file wiping functions for permanently destroying sensitive data in a manner that prevents recovery. Another unique feature of Puffer is the use of steganography to hide encrypted data in the pixels of image files so as not to be detected by the casual observer. Also included is the ability to create self-decrypting archives that combine a conventional Puf archive with a small decryption stub program, complete with a graphical user interface. This allows you to securely distribute files and messages to people who do not have Puffer installed on their system. All that is needed for decryption is knowledge of the archive password. Puffer is available for Windows versions 95 through XP with a license fee of $34.95 US. Multi-user site licenses are also available.
