Early Bird Bonus Chips

Post by rprism »

To encourage players to sign up early, it would be great to have a chip bonus, %, that could be added to the starting stack of payers who register before the game starts.

A bonus for a normal registration verses a penalty for late registration is effectively the same thing and the latter scenario is already supported.

The difference is in the perception from the player's POV.

Yes, the math is the same, but players would rather miss the opportunity of getting a "Bonus" rather than getting a "Penalty" for late registration. The penalty makes players think they're already at a disadvantage. Changing the sentiment helps to encourage both early and late registration.

I try to sell these as early registration bonuses as is, the only problem is that in the Tournament info it says "Late Penalty Chips: 1500" and "Starting Chips: 16500", instead of saying Early Registration Chips: 1500 and Starting Chips: 15000.

You can hand out bonus tickets, either manually or automated via API code.

I have been, with apparent success, just promoting a "Tuesday Reg BONUS" game. It has 30 minutes of late reg, but if you register on time, you get an "extra 2000 chips." I am, of course, implementing this bumping the starting stack up from 10K to 12K, and then docking the late regs 2K. But nobody has complained at all. I got the desired effect of havng more people register earlier. I still get late regs occasionally, so people aren't upset about the "penalty." And overall participation is up (although there may be other factors at play as well.)
