Location of default avatars

I'd like to keep most of the default avatars but replay perhaps 10-15 with custom avatars. I believe I must first get the default avatar's single image, use the destitch program provided to separate them. Then following a 32x32 pixel guideline create the ones I want, and finally restitch 64 avatars together.
Assuming this process is correct, where can I find the stock avatar file? The purchased software is on my friend's machine. After downloading and installing the trial software to look for said file I only found like 6 files total none of which seemed to be the avatars so I don't think his install folder would be any different.
