Password Recovery for Accounts

Hi, I am trying to figure out how password recovery works. I enabled it and set the smtp settings. I am able to click on the Reset My Password button and receive the code. But I am unsure what to do with that code. When I enter it in the Validation Code box and hit OK, I get an invalid password error. When I tried it again and entered the code into the password field, it seemed to work.
Is that how it is supposed to work? Is that code now the password for that account?
